James C. “Jim” Bailey, 81, of Dover, passed away on February 14, 2024, at Hennis Care Center in Dover following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 24, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Haas) Bailey. Jim lived a life adorned with hard work, love for the outdoors, and an unmatched knack for fixing anything that came his way.
After graduating from the Baltic High School with the class of 1960, he embarked on his career journey at Marlite for over 20 years.
Jim was known for his exceptional problem-solving skills and resourcefulness. There was no appliance too fussy or gadget too perplexing for him to diagnose and mend. He possessed an innate talent for fixing things around the house and became the go-to person in his family and neighbors for any handyman task.
Outside of his professional life, Jim cherished his time spent outdoors. He found solace in hunting expeditions. In addition to hunting, he possessed a green thumb that transformed his backyard into a beautiful vegetable garden.
On January 27, 1963, he married his wife of 61 years, Patricia Jones, who survives. He will also be sadly missed by his two daughters; Tammy (Joe) Elsen of Cincinnati, Heather Herbert (companion, Richard Kelker) of Dover; his sister, Deanna Mears of Worthington; five grandchildren, Katy and Samuel Elsen, Monica (Kyle) Chupp, Carly (Hunter) Harned, and Jason Herbert; five great-grandchildren, Sadie, Khloe, Jackson, Zoey, and Charlie; his sister in-law, Joy (Dave) Carpenter; his Godson, David Edwards; two nieces, Julie and Roberta; and his nephew, Danny Carpenter.
In honoring Jim's wishes, cremation has been entrusted with the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. Burial will take place at Grandview Union Cemetery on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 1:30 pm with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating.
