Harry R. Thompson, age 89, a long-time resident of Dover, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, in Dover’s Hennis Care Centre following a brief illness.

 

Born May 12, 1934, in Tuscarawas, he was the son of the late Harry F. and Ruth Simmons Thompson. Harry graduated from Tuscarawas-Warwick High School, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army. He married the former Barbara A. Burkhart, who survives, on October 22, 1960. Harry was employed by Alsco Anaconda in Gnadenhutten for 35 years before retiring. He was also a skilled upholsterer, having owned  and operated Thompson Upholstery at his home in Dover.

 

Harry was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dover. He very much enjoyed reading, and was especially fond of westerns - both in books and movies.

 

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Liz (John) Nelson and Audra Miceli, both of Dover; his grandchildren, Kristin and Anthony (Emily) Miceli, Kassidy (Mark) Vann, Jordan (Dustin) Hall, Janelle (Travis) Settlemyre, Dirk (Jacey), Kyle (Kelly) and Ethan (Shannon) Nelson; his 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Beth (Bill) Greer and Peggy Vesco; his sister-in-law, Margery Burkhart; and his nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Kurt Cummings; his son-in-law, Jim Miceli; his granddaughter, Tessa Miceli; and his sisters, Lois DiDonato and Emma Lehigh.

 

A private service will be held in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Bonnie L. Grimaldi officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park.

 

The family requests that contributions in Harry’s memory be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 216 N. Wooster Ave. or Tuscarawas Co. T.N.R. Project, 5143 Blacksnake Hill Rd. N.E., both addresses at Dover, Ohio 44622.
