Geremias Lopez Ajualip

Geremias Lopez Ajualip, age 19, a resident of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020. His life was tragically cut short in an automobile accident - another driver going the wrong way on I-77.

Born February 12, 2001, in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala, he was a son of Alonzo Lopez Gutierrez and Petronila Ajualip Zacarias of Guatemala. Geremias went to school in Guatemala, and came to the United States two years ago in search of a better life. In the U.S., Geremias attended New Philadelphia (Ohio) High School, and, after he was done with classes, helped out at the Lopez & Cobo Store in New Philadelphia. He was later employed by Fresh Mark in Massillon. Geremias was a good student, played the drums, was hard-working, respectful, pleasant to be around, and he had dreams and goals. He attended St. Joseph Church, Dover.

Geremias will be sadly missed by his parents, Alonzo and Petronila, and his siblings, Juana, Micaela, Anna Lilian, Laura Marina, Miguel, Carlos Enrique and Tomas Lopez Ajualip.

Visitation will be Friday, August 7, 6 - 8 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 8, at 11 a.m., in St. Joseph Church, Dover; Fr. Jimmy Hatfield will officiate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing will be observed and masks are a State mandate. Burial will be near Joyabaj in Quiche, Guatemala.

As in all times of difficulty, members of the community and local churches are working together to help meet the needs of the bereaved family.
