Gerald L. "Stoney" Eichel

Gerald L. “Stoney” Eichel, 68, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully into his eternal life on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Born September 5, 1958, in Dover, he was the son of the late Carl Eichel Sr. and Ida Walker. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Victoria Eichel; his brother, Rodney Eichel; brothers-in-law Robb Buzzeo, Jerry Watson, and Algernon Torrence; and his grandparents.

Stoney spent many years working the oil rigs before finding a long home at Greg’s Towing, where he continued until illness forced his retirement. He was a familiar and faithful presence at both Roxford Church and Schoenbrunn Moravian Church. Those who knew him will remember a man who was full of life and laughter. He loved playing games and working on his number color pictures, but more than anything, Stoney loved to talk. Conversations with him were never short, and his stories, humor, and easy way of connecting with people left a lasting impression on everyone around him.

He is survived by his children, Sheri Eichel, Crystal Eichel, and Kimberly Eichel (Steven Brooks); his grandchildren Lyveah, Kataleya, Jacob, Ernest, Trae’ Vaun, La’ Rae, Malaki, Kiyana, and Karizma; his siblings Carl (Mary) Eichel, Carla Watson, Tammy Eichel, Caren Eichel, Debbie (John) Baker, Vickie Eichel, Traci Buzzeo, and Robin Torrence; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will carry his memory forward.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 13, at 2:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover, with Rev. Ben Lippert officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment of the ashes will take place at a later date.
