George A. Vasos, 98, of Cape Coral, Florida, and formerly of Columbus, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
Born on March 6, 1927 in The Bronx, New York, he was a son of the late Andrew and Parthanopy Valkanas Vasos. George was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Vasos on March 11, 2016 and one brother, James Vasos.
George's early years were shaped by the experiences of World War II. After graduating from Central High School in 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. Following his service in WWII, George pursued higher education at The Ohio State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1952. However, his commitment to serving his country did not end there; he was subsequently drafted again by the Army and bravely served during the Korean War. Upon returning to civilian life, George channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into the restaurant industry. He became the owner and operator of several restaurants in the Columbus area. His culinary journey also took him to Florida, where he owned Andrea's On The Cape for many years. After retiring from the demanding restaurant business, George shifted his focus to a fulfilling role as a food supervisor for the State of Ohio School for the Blind, where he continued to contribute to the well-being of others for several years. George enjoyed various hobbies including yard work, woodworking, and reading.
George is survived by his daughters, Evelyn (Sheila Andrews) Vasos of Florida, Cathy Vasos of Grove City, Andrea (Scott) Newlon also of Grove City; grandson, Joshua Newlon; niece, Priscilla (Jack) Ralph; great niece and nephew, Jamie (Zach) Manning and Jack Ralph.
Private family graveside services will be held in the Dover Burial Park. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.
