George R. Klamut

George R. Klamut, age 83, of Dover, passed away Monday, March 15, 2021, in Community Hospice’s Truman House at New Philadelphia.

Born July 28, 1937, in Maynard, Belmont County, he was a son of the late George A. and Helen Baranosky Klamut. George graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1955, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army. On January 3, 1959, he married the former Marilyn Joyce Logan. The couple moved to Tuscarawas County, and shared 52 years of marriage prior to Joyce’s passing on November 8, 2011. George was a diesel and heavy equipment mechanic who owned his own business, Klamut Equipment Repair. He was previously employed by Ray C. Call of Strasburg, and the W.W. Williams Company..

George had a lifelong love of dogs, particularly beagles. He was a member of the Buckeye Beagle Club since 1963, and served as the organization’s president, secretary and on its board of directors. He competed in field trials with his dogs throughout the United States and won numerous championships.

Additionally, George belonged to the former Dover Elks Lodge and the Union of Operating Engineers.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, David (Linda) Logan of California; his nephew, Gary (Mary Lou) Klamut of Cambridge; his great-nephew, Darrick (Amy) Klamut; his great-niece, Gwendolyn (Andrew) Retzinger; his great-great-nephew, Roman Retzinger; and his great-great-niece, Rose Retzinger.

In addition to his parents, and his wife, Joyce, George was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry and Walter Klamut, and his sisters-in-law, Joan Shores and Amelia Klamut.
