Gary E. Roe, age 85, of New Philadelphia, and formerly of Bolivar and Dover, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Dover.
Born Sept. 4, 1937, in Roscoe, Coshocton Co., he was a son of the late Emmett and Delores Snow Roe. Gary graduated from Dover High School and went on to serve honorably with the United States Navy. Following his discharge, he was employed by the Timken Roller Bearing Co., Canton, where he worked for 55 years. Gary also owned and operated the former Rollercade in Dover.
He was a member of Akron’s Grace Baptist Church, and was a devoted family man. Gary also served for years on the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Aside from church, family, service and work, playing golf was one of his favorite pastimes.
Gary is survived by his children, Ronald (Jan) Roe of Medina, David (Donna) Roe of Bolivar, and Kelly (Jeff) Sprankle of Akron; his step-children, Dean Sprankle of New Philadelphia, Jeff (Kelly) Sprankle of Akron and Kevin Sprankle of Minerva; his ten grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Marlene (Chester) Hall of Lebanon, Ore.; his brother, Raymond (Nellie) Roe of Salem; and his nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his first wife, Saundra McCartney Roe; his second wife, Madelyn Henderson Roe; his daughter, Susan M. Roe; his sisters, Sylvia Cotterman, Wanda Riley and Audrey Fritz; and his brother, Ken Roe.
Family and friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 140 S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg, on Monday, Jan. 2, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. A service will follow at 1:30 in the funeral home; Pastor Randy Brown will officiate. Immediately after the service, there will be a lunch in the hospitality room of the Strasburg funeral home. Gary will be buried privately in Dover Burial Park.
