Garry A. DeVault, 79, of Dover, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, following a period of declining health.
Garry was born on April 5, 1947, in Dover to the late Roy and Anna (Morris) DeVault. His eight siblings also preceded him in death: Bill, Ed, Martin, Roy “Bud,” and Wayne DeVault, Margie Burkett, Lois Ann DeVault, and Rosalie Young.
Following his graduation from Dover High School, class of 1966, Garry enlisted in the Army, and proudly served his country in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged in 1969.
On June 28, 1968, while stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, Garry married Sally K. Gordon, and the couple celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage. Garry was a huge Nascar fan, and enjoyed visiting many of the tracks he loved watching on television. He also loved fishing, traveling, and was an avid collector of marbles, knives, and coins. He loved selling at his booth at the Dover Flea Market, where he thoroughly enjoyed striking up a conversation with a stranger as he made a sale. He was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks and the Tuscarawas County Coin Club. Above all, Garry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Sally, Garry will be deeply missed by his sons, Keith (Stephanie) DeVault of Winfield, and Scott DeVault of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Seth (Destiny) DeVault, Madison DeVault (Brennan McCune), and Brett DeVault; and great granddaughter, Nella.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the medical providers of the Veterans Administrative Services, the staffs of Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Hennis Care Centre in Dover, and the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House for the wonderful care they all provided. The family asks that those wishing to make a donation in Garry’s honor do so to the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
Garry’s care has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory in Strasburg, located at 140 South Bodmer Avenue, Strasburg, Ohio 44680. The family will greet guests at the funeral home on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 11:00 am. A funeral service celebrating Garry’s life will begin at noon, officiated by Pastor Jason Rissler, with a luncheon to follow at the funeral home’s reception center. Once service arrangements are finalized, a committal service will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, located at 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273, and this page will be updated with the service information. Those wishing may share an online condolence by visiting the funeral home’s website.
