Gail Ann McCreery, age 89, of Dover, a beloved member of the community, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Ohio's Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Born on December 26, 1935, in Dover, Ohio, Gail lived a life of dedication, compassion, and a vibrant spirit. She was the daughter of the late Willis and Bertha (Ball) Gordon.
Gail graduated from New Philadelphia High School in the class of 1953 and further pursued her education by attending secretarial school in Columbus. Her career spanned several roles, including positions at Youngen Insurance and WJER Radio. A significant chapter of her professional life was dedicated to the Tuscarawas County Hospice, where she was a major contributor in its establishment and worked for many years, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to serving those in need.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Gail was an active member of the First Christian Church in Dover, where she found not only a place of worship but also a community in which she took great pride. Her love for giving back was evident in both her community and church involvement, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Gail was known for her love of dancing, a passion she shared with her devoted husband, Don. Gail and Don were married on March 5, 1955. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2024. Together, they cherished moments spent with close friends, affectionately referred to as "The Flakes." Their strong bond was evident when they built their own home in the 1960s, a space that welcomed family and friends for joyous gatherings. Summers were often spent on their pontoon boat at Atwood Lake, a testament to their appreciation for nature and the great outdoors. Gail was a baseball fan and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Guardians.
Gail leaves behind her daughters, Jennifer (Greg) Barrows of South Carolina and Jill Denbow of Dover; grandchildren Corey (Jamie) Barrows, Meagan Lindberg, and Kendall Barrows (fiance, Wills Burns); great-grandchildren Braxton and Addison Lawver and Maeve Barrows; and sister-in-law Joanne Telkamp of Florida and Janice Gordon of Ottawa, Ohio; along with many nieces and nephews.
Her brother, Jerry Gordon, and sister Joanne (Jim) Kelly also preceded her in death.
Friends are invited to gather at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 10:00 am-11:00 am. A service will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday with Pastor Josh Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover next to Don.
