Frederick W. (Pastor Fred) Grosse

Frederick W. (Pastor Fred) Grosse, 80, of Strasburg died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following a period of declining health.


Born Oct. 6, 1942 in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of the late Fred and Paula (Winkler) Grosse. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Rudy.

He served as pastor at three parishes in Ohio, ending with First Lutheran Church in Strasburg from 1987-2004.


Pastor Fred graduated from the University of Buffalo and the Hamma School of Theology at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. Following retirement from the ministry, he attended the Grace Lutheran Church in Dover. His passion was astronomy and loved spending time with his family.


He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of 54 years, Jane Staib Grosse. They were married on July 13, 1968. He is also survived by his son, David (Gretchen) Grosse of Lexington, Ohio and his daughter, Karen (Matt) Keene of Raleigh, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Sarah Grosse, Gareth Keene and Anna Keene along with a brother and sister, Phillip and Paula Grosse.


Pastor Fred’s family would like to thank the Hennis Care Centre in Dover for their loving care for Fred.
