Francis A. Brogan Jr., age 84, of Dover, passed away Monday, January 24, 2022, following a period of declining health.
Born November 30, 1937, he was the son of the late Francis A. Sr. and Maxine Rosenburg Brogan. Francis graduated from Midland High School in Midland, Pennsylvania, and, on January 23, 1957, married the love of his life, Dorothy E. Monahan. By ensuring that their Christian faith and devoted marriage was the center of the family, the couple shared 64 years of marriage and raised five children prior to Dorothy’s passing on October 31, 2021. Francis and Dorothy owned and operated Williams Furniture in the Dover- New Philadelphia area since 1976 - and Francis had worked in the furniture and appliance business for 66 years.
He was a long-time faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover, and, in his younger days, belonged to the church’s men’s club where he especially enjoyed planning activities for church festivals. Francis enjoyed the game of golf, which he played with his friends for over 30 years on Mondays and Wednesdays. His golf buddies could count on him to plan their annual golf outing to their favorite course. Francis was a devoted, loving caregiver and family man, and worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He loved his family and supported his children and grandchildren through all of their school and sporting activities, and in their lives afterward. Francis particularly enjoyed gatherings at the family’s home and their lake home, where he could often be found boating, fishing or just relaxing in his favorite chair. His love, concern and support for others extended to those outside Francis’s family as well. He would often contribute to the care of others with hardships, and could be counted on for special needs of the church.
Francis will be dearly missed by by his children, Pat (Shannon) Brogan of New Philadelphia, Marty (Jody) Brogan, Polly Brogan, Jennifer (Mike) Henninge and Fran Brogan, all of Dover; his grandchildren, John, Hillary, Cullen, Ian, Dillon, Hailey, Rachel, Emily, Marissa, Kaitlynn, Makayla, Frannie, Connor, Erin and Taylor; his great-grandchildren, Evalynn, Daniel and Quinn; his sister, Maryann (Bill) Rambo; his many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; his nieces and nephews; and his grand-dogs.
