Frances E. May, age 94, of Dover, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021, in Dover’s Park Village Health Care Center.
Born January 13, 1927, in Bannock, Belmont County, she was a daughter of the late Taddy and Catherine Fikas Barnish. Frances moved with her family at a young age to New Philadelphia where she graduated from high school. She married Charles T. May on August 30, 1947; the couple raised four children and shared 33 years of marriage prior to Charles’ passing on March 20, 1981. Frances was a homemaker - a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Following Charles’ death, she was employed for a number of years by New Dawn Health Care Center in Dover.
Frances was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in New Philadelphia. She loved to read and enjoyed playing cards, bingo and working puzzles. Her grandchildren and nieces and nephews have fond memories of her playing games with them and her kind nature. She was proud of her family and the fact that her children always got along well together.
She is survived by her daughter, April Brick of New Philadelphia; her sons, Charles “Chuck” (Peggy) May, also of New Philadelphia, and Eugene “Bab” (Joyce) May of Topsham, Maine; her daughter-in-law, Aimee May of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Lisa (Clint) Troyer, Fritz Brick II, Danny May, Deana (Joel) May-Thomas, Dianna (Bobby Holmes) May-McIntosh, Matt (Jessica) May, Bryan (Nanette) May, Brandon (Rosa) May and Dennis May; her great-grandchildren, Lexi and Chet Troyer, MaKenna and Georgia McIntosh, Brandyn Thomas, Brody May, Tu, Justin and Jaydon, Owen, Mia, Emily and Ella May; her great-great-granddaughter, MaLeah Grace Kelly; her sister-in-law, Rose Barnish; and her wonderful nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Charles, Frances was preceded in death by her son, Tom May; her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Glenn Smith; her brother, Eugene Barnish; and her son-in-law, Fritz Brick.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday, October 4, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 officiated by Rev. William Rinderknecht. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
