Evelyn V. Shutt

October 24, 1925 — September 1, 2021

Evelyn V. Shutt, age 95, a long-time resident of Winfield, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Born October 24, 1925, in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Alex S. “Ike”and Mayme L. Beard Ritenour. Evelyn graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1943, and, on October 14, 1946, married Floyd W. Shutt. The couple raised two children and shared 39 years of marriage prior to Floyd’s passing on Christmas Day, 1985. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; she was employed by GTE in New Philadelphia and the Bolivar IGA. Additionally, Evelyn and Floyd owned and operated the Winfield General Store.

She was a member of the Winfield Community Church and participated in the church’s Bear and Blanket Group. Evelyn also volunteered for years at Dover’s Union Hospital and worked in the hospital’s Mobile Meals Program. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting ceramics and china, working word puzzles and playing cards with friends.

Evelyn will be dearly missed by her daughter and caregiver, Holly Schupp of Uhrichsville; her son, Rev. Bill (Rose) Shutt of Florence, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Joanna (Jesse) Harris, Joel and John Mark Shutt; her siblings, Shirley Winkler and Donald Ritenour; her former son-in-law, Gregory Schupp; and her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Floyd, Evelyn was preceded in death by her siblings, Donna Androsky, Phyllis Winkler, and Joe and Glen Ritenour.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Saturday, September 4, 5 – 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, September 5, at 1:30 p.m.; Pastor Lu Ann Youngman will officiate. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery, Sugarcreek. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
