Evelyn L. May

Evelyn L. May, age 72, of Dover, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018, in Akron General Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Born February 14, 1946, in Troy, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Forest and Ora Hurst Hall. Evelyn came to Ohio as a young lady and attended Tuscarawas Valley High School. She married Harold Rocco May Jr. on February 14, 1964 in New Philadelphia. The couple reared two children and shared forty-eight years of marriage; they renewed their wedding vows just a little over a month before Rocco’s passing on November 10, 2012.

Evelyn worked for several local manufacturing firms, including Joy and Handy & Harman. She was presently employed by Joann Fabrics & Crafts, New Philadelphia. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with family and friends. She was a Cleveland Indians fan, enjoyed camping at Atwood Lake, sewing and crafts, and working in the yard around her home.

Survivors include her son, Dale May of Dover; her daughter, Vicky (Glen) Maurer of New Philadelphia; her granddaughters, Amanda Maurer of New Philadelphia, and Alison Maurer of Dover; her sister, Barbara (Bill) Martin of Bolivar; her nieces and nephews; her much-loved former African grey parrot, Sparky; and her “grandpuppies,” Badger, Toby and Bruno.

Besides her parents, and her husband, Rocco, Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Lowther; and her brothers, James Adrian, Robert and Jerry Hall.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Saturday, February 17, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. A funeral service, officiated by Minister Barbara DeBord, will follow at 1:30. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. After the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
