Evan Aaron Davis

Evan Aaron Davis, 16, of Midvale, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 3, 2025, following an 18-and-a-half-month battle with DMG, an aggressive brain cancer with no cure.

Evan was born on January 28, 2009, in Dover and was the son of Aaron and Lisa Davis. He was a sophomore at Indian Valley High School, where he was a friend to all. He was recently inducted into the National Honor Society, as he was an excellent student who loved math, languages, and engineering courses. Outside the classroom, he was involved in robotics, scholar challenge, pep band, marching band, and drama. He loved learning from all of his teachers.

Evan was, by so many accounts, one of the nicest people anyone could know. His smile brightened the darkest mood, and his laugh was second to none. His work ethic growing up was shaped by his family, but also by his Tae Kwon Do instructor, Mr. Adam Karam. When Evan set out to accomplish a goal, he would stop at nothing to see it through. He loved math as well as languages. He learned French at school but also found a fondness for constructed languages such as Esperanto, Ithkuil, Lojban, and Klingon. He even worked to create his own constructed language, which he called Astilan. He also loved taking trips and going on family adventures. He traveled to The Great Smoky Mountains every single year since he was born and enjoyed hiking in the mountains.

Marching band was where Evan’s personality and exuberance truly came alive. He loved the competitiveness and challenge of playing percussion and was a very talented snare drum player. His best memories came from playing in marching band with his friends. This also led to a passion for watching drum corps. He took his Wishes Can Happen trip to the Drum Corps International Championships in Indianapolis in August of 2024 and had what he described as the time of his life.

His parents were most proud of him for his deep Christian faith. He attended Holmes Church and cited his faith as the source of his strength throughout his cancer battle. He loved to talk about the Bible, and one of his favorite things to do in his last days was to listen to his dad read passages from his favorite books.

In addition to his parents, he will be sadly missed by his little brother, Liam Davis; beloved grandma Brenda Frey of Midvale; beloved Auntie Gina (fiancee Jason Ackerman) Pugh of Freeport; grandparents Glenn and Barbara Davis of Gnadenhutten; paternal aunts, Wendy (Charles) Derr of Gnadenhutten and Heather (Matthew) Brown of Gnadenhutten; great uncle Floyd (Debby) Zeigler of Midvale; great aunts Stella Noel of Bolivar, and Shelly (Robert) Hensel of Scio, as well as numerous cousins and other family. He is also survived by his girlfriend of three and a half years, Rachel Glazer of Newcomerstown, who supported him throughout his cancer journey. He will be sorely missed by his miniature schnauzers, Winnie, Piper, and Mazie, and “Uncle” Scott and “Aunt” Danelle of Gnadenhutten, and all of his wonderful friends and special percussion buddies.

Preceding Evan in death were his beloved grandpa, Paul Frey; great-grandparents, Bill and Wanda Zeigler, William and Virginia Davis, and Paul and Ruth Frey, great-aunt June (Don) Winkler and great-uncle, Paul Noel.

The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, May 8th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the New Pointe Community Church at Dover. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm with Pastor Roger Warnes officiating. The family encourages you to wear red and blue for Indian Valley or gray for brain cancer awareness.
