Edward D. Watt

Edward D. Watt, age 81, of Dover, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover after a period of declining health.

Born on June 10, 1944, in Dennison, he was the son of the late Robert and Mildred Kalt Watt. On June 11,1966, Ed married Janet Whipkey, and the two celebrated 51 years of marriage before her passing on February 18, 2018.

After graduating from high school, Ed joined the Army Reserves and proudly served for nine years. He was a mechanic, and retired in 2010 from Swanson Industries in New Philadelphia following twenty five years of service to the company. In his leisure time he enjoyed archery, riding his motorcycle with Janet, and above all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who fondly referred to him as their “Pap.” Following Janet’s passing, he was welcomed by his daughter-in-law’s family, and became a well loved extended member of the family, enjoying many holidays and gatherings.

Ed leaves behind his children, Brian (Loretta) of New Philadelphia, Stephen, of Dover, and Christopher (Gabby) of Colorado; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Terry Watt, of Jewett, and sister, Katherine (Wilbur) Woods, of Scio. In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by his grandson, Dakoda Watt; sister, Martha Michelli; sister-in-law, Gloria Watt; niece, Stacie Gilmore; and nephew, Eric Watt.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at the Authentic Church located at 201 Stonecreek Road NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio, on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 5:00 pm with Josh McDonald officiating.
