Douglas Richard “Doug” Henry, 74, of Dover passed away from an extended illness on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Aultman Hospital.
Born on December 13, 1946 in Wheeling, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Richard Walton Henry and Juanita (Postlethwaite) Henry. He was also preceded in death by his sister Marsha Henry Marsh.
He spent his early years growing up in Flushing, Ohio and his family moved to Sugarcreek where he graduated from Garaway High School with the class of 1965. He later received his bachelor’s degree from Malone University. Doug had a passion for music which led him to being the band director at Central Catholic High School in New Philadelphia and Strasburg High School for many years. He was a member of the Dover Knights of Columbus. Doug enjoyed reminiscing about the past with his family, students, and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He had a green thumb and spent many hours tending to his tomatoes and flowers.
On June 27, 1975, he married his beloved wife, Mary Korfel, who survives. He is also survived by his children; Brian Henry of New Philadelphia, Allison Henry of Akron, and Andrea Waers, who was like a daughter to him; six grandchildren, Xavier, Ava, Andy, Jaleo, Emily, and Matthew; along with his brother, Michael (Lisa) Henry of New Philadelphia.
Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 5-7 pm. A private family service will be held later.
