Douglas C. “Doug” Konowal, age 72, of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024.
Born August 29, 1952, in Lorain, he was a son of the late Donald and Laverne (Nevins) Konowal. Doug moved with his family at a young age to New Philadelphia where he graduated from high school. Soon afterward, he was employed by the Ohio Power Company - now known as AEP Ohio, from which he retired after 36 years of service. Doug married the former Ann M. (Lewis) Miller, who survives, on June 29, 1979.
Doug loved working with wood, and he built much of the furniture in his and Ann’s home, and, among other things, many birdhouses, squirrel houses and benches. He was very handy and could fix nearly anything. Another of Doug’s loves was fishing and boating on Lake Erie - he caught quite a lot of fish and owned several boats over the years.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Ann; his son, Jason (Laura) Miller of Parma; his brother, David Konowal of Beloit, Wisconsin; his sister, Donna (Richard) Smart of New Philadelphia; his nieces and nephews, Richele and Jim (Abby) Smart, and Andrew, Aaron, Adam and Addison Morgan; and his great-nieces, Taylor, Maddie, Rion, Olivia and Avery.
Doug will be cremated through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A celebration of his life is being planned, the date and time of which will be announced.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Doug’s memory be made to the American Heart Association, 1375 E. Ninth St., No. 600, Cleveland, Ohio 44114.
