Walnut Creek

Doris L. Yackey, 90, a dedicated member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church and a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, at the Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek, Ohio. She was surrounded by her sister, Bonnie and her beloved niece Keara and nephews Paul, Greyson, and Karson during her final moments.

Doris was born on August 3, 1933, in Columbia, Ohio to Ralph and Viola Myers Yackey. She graduated from Dover High School in 1951. After her education, Doris embarked on a fulfilling career in the purchasing department at Shenango in Dover. She dedicated many years of hard work until the company sadly closed its doors.

Doris had an unwavering passion for cooking, baking, and sewing. Her culinary creations brought joy to countless gatherings with family and friends. Whether it was a delectable dish or a beautifully sewn garment, Doris poured her heart into every creation.

She avidly followed Dover football games and cheered for the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cleveland Guardians.

One of Doris's proudest accomplishments was her involvement at the Strasburg United Methodist Church. For over half a century, she served as the children's director and devotedly mentored young hearts within the congregation. Her dedication extended beyond directing; she also worked with the children's choir and taught Sunday School classes.  She also lent her beautiful voice to the senior church choir.  Additionally, Doris held several offices for the Cambridge District United Methodist Women.

Family held a special place in Doris's heart. She leaves behind her sister, Bonnie Yackey of Dover; along with her nieces and nephews; Phoebe (Lynn) Zehnder of Strasburg, Deborah Gordon of Colorado Springs, CO, Candace (Jim) Marks of Aurora, CO, Joyce (Eddie) Briggs of Mt. Sterling, OH, Bruce (Angi) Ray of Texas, Bob (Nancy) Yackey of Canton, OH, Paul (Ember) Yackey of Dover, Kenny Yackey; along with her special cousin, Karen Becker of Bolivar, and numerous great- nieces and nephews whom she adored.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; Betty Gordon Goedel, Eileen Ray, Jim Yackey, Kenny Yackey, David Yackey; and three nephews, Gary Yackey, Dennis Gordon, and Don Gordon.
