Doris J. Maurer

June 11, 1942 — October 28, 2023

Dover

Doris J. Maurer, 81, of Dover, a dedicated homemaker whose kindness and love touched the lives of many, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House. She was born on June 11, 1942, in Dover, a town she held dear to her heart throughout her life.

Doris was known for her unwavering commitment to her family and home. As a loving mother and grandmother, she poured her heart and soul into creating a warm and nurturing environment for her loved ones. Her children, Jerry (Susan) Maurer of New Philadelphia, Dale Maurer of Dover, and Glen (Vicky) Maurer of New Philadelphia, were the center of her world. Above all else, Doris cherished moments spent with her grandchildren. One of her many talents was making colored pancakes that brought smiles to their faces and created lasting memories. Her grandchildren, Amanda (Keith) Shanklin, Kyle (Jessica) Maurer, Alison (Tyler) Hawk, Matt (Kristen) Maurer, Amy Maurer and her fiance Mike Ciereszewski held a special place in her heart.  She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Addison and Anistyn Maurer, her beloved great grand puppies, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to being a caring mother and grandmother, Doris was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Winfield. She found great joy in participating in the church's women's group where she built cherished friendships with fellow members who shared her faith and values. In her free time, Doris could often be found engrossed in a good book or challenging herself with puzzles that tested her sharp mind. Doris had a deep love for sports and made it a priority to attend her family's sporting events. Cheering from the sidelines with unwavering support, she became their biggest fan

Doris will always be remembered for her kind spirit, warmth, and strong sense of compassion. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched with acts of love and generosity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Elsie Wallick Sommers; husband, John E. Maurer on April 27, 2012; sister, Judy Penrod; brother, Darrell Sommers and an infant brother.
