Donald L. Knight, 91, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 6, 2023, in New Philadelphia, Ohio at Schoenbrunn Health Care Center.
He was born on August 18, 1931, in Deersville, Ohio. He was the son of the late Omen W. Knight and Hattie Winn Tongret.
Donald dedicated 42 years of his life to Greer Steel where he worked diligently in the shipping department before retiring.
Donald celebrated 71 years of marriage to Delores "Jane" (Nichols) Knight before she preceded him in death on April 25, 2022. He was also preceded in death by one sister and four brothers, his grandson, Josh Knight, and his son-in-law, Rod Dean.
He had a deep appreciation for nature and trees and enjoyed spending his time outdoors on his daily walks in the woods. Don was a member of the Archeological Society. He was a local history buff and was always eager to learn more about both Tuscarawas County and Harrison County. He also loved exploring flea markets.
Donald is survived by his children: Sue Sorensen of Ontario, Canada, Marilyn Dean of Uhrichsville, Joe and Karen Knight of New Philadelphia, Kathy and Duane Rainsberger of Uhrichsville, and Don Knight of New Philadelphia. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Donald's contributions to his community and his dedication to hard work were evident. His long and fulfilling career at Greer Steel exemplified his commitment and unwavering work ethic.
While we mourn the loss of Donald L. Knight, let us also celebrate the full and meaningful life he lived. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and appreciation for the simple joys of life. Let us remember Donald fondly, holding onto the memories we shared with him.
Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory of Dover on Monday, August 14, 2023, from 10-11:00 am. A celebration of Donald's life will be held following the visitation at 11:00 am with Elder Bruce Levengood and Elder Tim Levengood officiating. A meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center in Dover immediately following the service. Burial will follow at Patterson Union Cemetery in Deersville at 3 pm.
