Donald E. “Don” Gordon, age 76, of Bucyrus, formerly of Dover, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017, one day shy of his 77th birthday, in his home, following a long illness.
Born October 26, 1940, in Dover, he was a son of the late Wilbert C. and Beatrice I. Grimm Gordon. Don graduated from Dover High School and was employed by Dover’s Shenango –Penn Mold Co. He later served as a police officer for the City of New Philadelphia, and then worked as a truck driver until an injury prevented him to do so.
Don was a well-known and respected gunsmith and enjoyed hunting and trap-shooting. Among his other interests were fishing, playing cards and going to auctions and swap meets.
He was a devoted family man, who especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family includes his wife, Suanne Wilson Gordon, whom he married on April 29, 1976; his children, Kimberly (Jim) Davis, Donald (Jodi Lynn) Gordon Jr. and Denise (Tim) Carpenter, all of New Philadelphia, and Misty (David) Blackford of Marion; his eighteen grandchildren; his many great-grandchildren; his sisters, Phoebe (Lynn) Zehnder of Strasburg, Debbie Gordon-Rogers of Parral, and Candace Marks of Columbia; and his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his step-parents, Ted and Betty Goedel, and by his brother, Dennis Gordon.
A funeral service will be held Saturday (today), October 28, at 12 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Jason Humble of the Strasburg United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Strasburg U.M. Church.
