Donald L. "Don" Burnem, 86, passed away on July 30, 2025, at Hennis Care Center in Dover, following a sudden illness. He was born on June 16, 1939, in Charleston, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Virgil and Ina (Mooney) Burnem.
Don's professional endeavors showcased his incredible work ethic and determination. He devoted 27 years of his career to Republic Steel, a role that exemplified his dedication and commitment. Following his tenure there, he embraced the freedom of being an independent truck driver. In collaboration with his good friend, Alan Patterson, Don also ventured into business ownership, operating an excavating business that thrived through their hard work and partnership. Outside of work, Don found joy in simpler pastimes. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends from Rush Township, including his close friend and neighbor, Rick Poland.
On September 28, 1957, he married Shirley Beitzel, who survives. He also leaves behind his children: Don (Denise) Burnem of Surprise, Arizona, Tim (Joni) Burnem of Uhrichsville, and Matt (Jean) Burnem of Uhrichsville, along with six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his six brothers, he was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Amanda Burnem.
