Dennis J. “Shorty” May Jr., 75, of Dover (Parral) Ohio, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Community Hospice Truman House following a period of declining health.
Born July 3, 1946 in Dover he was a son of the late Dennis Sr. and Dorothy (Clay) May. He was raised on the family farm in New Philadelphia, and attended New Philadelphia Schools, having graduated in 1964. After graduation, Dennis Jr. was hired at Republic Steel of Massillon. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966, and then served in the Vietnam War until he was discharged from the Army in 1968. He then returned to his employment at Republic Steel until his retirement in 2006.
Dennis Jr. was an avid hunter, and looked forward to going on out of state hunting trips with the guys. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, as well as, playing with his dog, Missy at home, and at their cabin in Canada. Dennis Jr. was a former trustee of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge FOE #510, member of New Philadelphia VFW and a frequent customer of the Sunnyside store in Parral.
In addition to his parents, Dennis Jr. was also preceded in death by his grandsons, Baby Craig and Brent Jr; great grandson, Jayden and his brother in law, Mike Nugo.
Dennis Jr. is survived by his daughters, Buffie (Buck) May, Brooke (Craig) May and Teri (Tim) Vickers; granddaughters, Felicia (Ricky) Schilling, Kendra (JC) Brenner, Savana Reed and Nathan Vickers; great-grandchildren, Harmony, Hayden and Adrian; siblings, David (Connie) May, Linda (Dave) Hykes, Bonnie May and Karen Nugo and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A celebration of Dennis Jr’s life will be held on Sunday, September 12th at 2:00 pm in the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge at 1180 Union Ave. New Philadelphia, Ohio.
