Delbert "Del" Ashkettle, 83, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Camden Clark Hospital.
Born on October 12, 1942, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Del was the son of the late Arthur and Kathleen (Vernon) Ashkettle.
A graduate of Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana, Del later furthered his education with postgraduate studies at the University of Akron. He built a successful career as a Chemical Engineer, working throughout the plastics and manufacturing industries. Over the years, he was employed by D&D Plastics, RKS Laminates in Cadiz, and Cadiz Custom Components. He concluded his professional career as Sales Manager for Cleveland Plywood, retiring in 2009 after many years of dedicated service.
On April 20, 1963, Del married the love of his life, Linda Howell. Together, they shared more than 51 years of marriage before her passing on June 28, 2014. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Del was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Roy "Toady" and Juanita "Jean" Howell.
Del was a faithful member of the First Moravian Church in Dover and was an active member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge, where he proudly served as an officer. He found great joy in spending time on the water, whether fishing or boating, and treasured the many memories made with family and friends throughout the years. Del moved to Vienna, West Virginia, in 2019 to be closer to his family. He joined the Vienna Senior Center, where he played chair volleyball twice a week and met many close friends over the years.
He will be deeply missed by his loving family, including his children, Jeffrey (Tammy) Ashkettle, Richard (Becky) Ashkettle, and Melinda (Eric) Hilling; his eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; his brothers, Phillip (Sandy) Ashkettle and Russell (Kathy) Ashkettle; his brother-in-law, Bill Uebel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 am at Dover Burial Park with Pastor David Wing officiating. To sign an online guestbook for Del, visit the obituary link on the funeral home's website.
