David Lee "Dave" Johnston

David Lee “Dave” Johnston Sr., 78, of Dover passed away at Justin T. Rogers Care Center in Akron on Friday, April 8, 2022.



Born in Cambridge on August 25, 1943, he was the son of the late Vernon Claire and Dorothy Lucille (Fleming) Johnston. He graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1961. He served in the United States Army as a military policeman.



Dave worked for Howden (formerly Joy Manufacturing) for 35 years. He retired as the international sales manager. He later worked for Kimble, which is now the Hines Corporation, in national sales for 10 years before his final retirement. He enjoyed traveling which worked well in his career. He traveled all over the world, making lifelong friends along the way.



Dave was a talented handyman and was proud to have built his first family home. Dave’s hobbies were working outside, racing drag cars and his 1962 Corvette. He had a soft spot in his heart for his animals.



He is survived by his wife, Cheri (Schultz) whom he married on June 1, 1968; his sons, Dave (Leah) Johnston Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama, Matthew (Susan) Johnston of Parker, Colorado; along with his four grandchildren, Clay, Mary Grace, Logan, and Lily.



In honoring Dave’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted with the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory in Dover. Friends are invited to gather at the Dover funeral home on Monday, April 11, 2022 from 4 pm- 5:30 pm.
