Darlene S. Kandel, age 82, of Stone Creek, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Ohio's Hospice Truman House on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Born on October 24, 1943, in New Cumberland, Ohio, Darlene was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Elma (Pittman) Davy.
Darlene worked for many years at Alsco until it closed, and later worked at American Weather Seal in Winesburg. She was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. She had a deep love for her family and her community, and always found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
An avid Cleveland sports fan, Darlene could often be found cheering for all of her teams, and she loved spending time in her garden. Her green thumb and passion for the outdoors reflected her nurturing spirit.
Darlene married the love of her life, Durlan R. Kandel, on January 17, 1963. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories, including over 30 years spent training field trial dogs. They worked side by side, creating a legacy of love for the sport that brought them even closer. Durlan preceded her in death on August 22, 2023.
In addition to their work with dogs, Darlene and Durlan enjoyed spending their winters in Florida, where they cherished time in the sun, surrounded by nature and each other’s company. Their bond was an enduring testament to the love and joy they found in one another.
Darlene leaves behind her daughter, Brenda (David) Egler of Port Washington; her son, David (Bonnie) Kandel of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Alyssia (Robert) Perrotta, Kayleigh (Jessie) Robson, and T.J. Meechan; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Linda Moss.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters and three half sisters; her half-brother; and her step-grandson, Seth Meechan.
