Danny Lee "Dan" Shepherd, Age 76, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026 following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on September 16, 1949, to Dorothy (Harmon) and John Shepherd in Mansfield, Ohio. Dan was a 1968 graduate of Mansfield Madison High School. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy reaching the rank of Quartermaster serving aboard the USS Hank. After his military service, he earned a BSLA degree from The Ohio State University and enjoyed a career as a registered Landscape Architect working with several engineering firms in Columbus, Ohio. After their retirements Dan and his wife of 51 years moved back to the Dover/New Philadelphia area, where they had first met.
Dan was a man of many passions. He made over 200 parachute jumps, enjoyed snow skiing with family and friends, and was a member of the Sandusky Sailing Club. He also served as a photographer for the OSU Cheer Squad, performed as "Buck Two Ninety-Eight" at local open mic nights singing and playing his guitar, and loved traveling with his wife and friends.
Dan is survived by his wife, Darcie (Ewing) Shepherd; daughters, Teri Shepherd and Samantha Shepherd; grandchildren, Paige (Travis) Preston, Kiara Clausen, and Madison Clausen; great-grand buddies, Leo and Isaac Preston; and his extended family of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Bill Cress; his father and stepmother, John and Inez Shepherd; and his brother, Mike Shepherd.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A service celebrating Dan’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27th starting at 12:00pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover with Steve Jenkins officiating. The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
