Clarence G. Gorby, 91, of New Philadelphia passed away at Akron City Hospital on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
He was born on January 18, 1934 in Moundsville, West Virginia a son of the late Rose Gorby. Clarence was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Gorby.
He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning from military service, Clarence devoted 22 years of his career to CSX Railroad. Clarence's passion for baseball was a defining part of his character. He coached little league teams and served as an umpire for many years, sharing his love of the sport with young athletes. Clarence found joy in daily activities such as playing a round of golf or riding his bicycle around town. His visits to the New Philadelphia Public Library were frequent, as he had a passion for reading. Additionally, he had a creative side, enjoying string and wire art. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Elks.
Clarence is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Bob) Dinsmore, Jackie (Darryl) Costanzo both of West Virginia, Terry (Adam Staller) Glidden of Akron, Toni Gorby of Strasburg; five grandchildren, many great grandchildren and his close friend, Ron Coombs of Uhrichsville.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. There are no services or calling hours.
