Charlene M. McClain

Charlene M. McClain, born August 25, 1926, was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Eunice (Bates) Beitzel. She passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, October 28, 2025.

She graduated from Strasburg High School in the Class of 1944. She married Boyd McClain, who preceded her in death on July 8, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her son, James McClain, as well as six brothers and one sister.

Charlene spent most of her career working in the restaurant industry. She was employed at Malcuit’s, Leonard’s, and the Italian American Club in Waynesburg, where she continued to work well into her 90s. She truly loved to work and cherished the friendships she made throughout her career.

Beyond her dedication to her work, Charlene treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed visiting Northfield Park and taking trips to Wheeling to play the slot machines. She also loved traveling with her family, who never left her behind when they went on a vacation.

She will be greatly missed by her children: David (Barb) McClain of Waynesburg, Sue (Micky) Borsellino of Waynesburg, Jenny Merryman of Bolivar, Jane (Timothy) Goodnight of Bolivar, along with eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her daughter in-law, Jeanie MCClain.

Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Strasburg on Monday, November 3, 2025 from 1:00 p.m until 2:00 p.m. A celebration of Charlene’s life will take place at the funeral home at 2:00 with Pastor Doug Kilchenman officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Union Cemetery in Strasburg. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served in the funeral home reception facility.
