Catherine “Jenny” Warner, age 94, of Dover, died Monday, September 30, 2024, in Dover’s Park Village Health Care Center, following a period of declining health.
Born August 8, 1930, in Dover, to the late Lawrence and Helen (Ghezzi) Contini, she was the youngest of their 12 children. A lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Dover, she attended St. Joseph schools and graduated from St. Joseph High School. Jenny was employed by the former Ren’s Restaurant in Dover, and it was there that she met the love of her life, Marion Warner. The couple were married on September 14, 1963, and shared 40 happy years together prior to Marion’s death on January 14, 2004.
Jenny’s life centered on her church and on Marion. She operated bingo two nights a week for over 50 years in order to help support St. Joseph School, and was well-known for her delicious bingo “lunches” - particularly her meatloaf. Jenny was also a long-time worker at St. Joseph’s funeral dinners. She was later employed for 16 years as a custodian at St. Joseph School, and Marion joined her, also as custodian, for 10 of those years. The two were named as “honorary grandparents” of the school when they retired in 1995.
Jenny enjoyed traveling with Marion, taking trips to Wheeling and Las Vegas with her sisters, and, of course, playing bingo.
She is survived by her many nieces and nephews, including Brenda (John) Basiletti of New Philadelphia; her many great-nieces and great-nephews, including Andrea (Kevin) Fox; her “honorary grandchildren,” Leigh, Kelsey, Ben (Taylor), Therese and Max Burnham, Grace (Chris) Bellon and Mary (Jan-Michael) LaBrake; and her special friends, Jack and Judy Burnham.
In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, Marion, Jenny was preceded in death by her six sisters, Mary Schiavone, Antonette DeRosario, Lucille DuVall, Connie Contini, Flossie Amicone and Annie Contini; and her five brothers, Daniel “Jack”, Michael, Patrick, Lawrence and Joseph Contini.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Thursday, October 3, 6 - 8 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 4, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Fr. Jimmy Hatfield will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the St. Joseph Family Life Center.
