Carol Jean Graef, 78, of Dover, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Carol was a lifelong resident of the Dover/New Philadelphia area. Born May 1, 1945 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Anna Miller who resided in New Philadelphia. She was a 1963 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a graduate of Gerber’s Beauty School in Canton, Ohio. She retired in 2005 from the Tuscarawas County Clerk of Courts office.
Carol always enjoyed being active in civic organizations. She served as a past President of the Dover Jaycee Wives (1972) and one of her favorite honors was being named “Woman of the Year” in 1976 by the Amitie Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. Carol was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover where she served in various roles as a former member of the church council.
Spending time with family was the most important part of Carol’s life. She will be deeply missed by the entire family. She is survived by her son, Wayne (Kimberly) Parrish of Dover; her grandson, Zachary Parrish of Cleveland; and her granddaughter, Amanda (Edward) Sutelan of Charlotte, North Carolina; niece Brenda Kermode, nephews, Kenneth Weltlich, Donald (David Perin) Weltlich, Gerald (Tracey) Weltlich, and Edward (Brenda) Weltlich, along with numerous great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Parrish, husband, Dick Graef, sister, Luella (George) Weltlich, and special friend William Hoffman.
The family wants to say a special thank you to Rebecca Turnbull, Debbie Allen, Ember Complete Care, Schoenbrunn Healthcare, and Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County for their wonderful care of Carol.
Carol will be cremated. A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 25, 2023 at 10am in the Dover Burial Park in Dover. Friends will be received at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday from 11am-1pm followed by a memorial service beginning at 1pm with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Famous Endings Museum located in the Dover funeral home.
