Carol Anne Frantum

July 26, 1945 — July 19, 2025

New Philadelphia, Ohio

Carol Anne Frantum, age 79, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Dover, from complications after a series of strokes.

Born July 26, 1945, in Canton, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anne (Dorosky) Popichak. Carol Anne graduated from Canton Timken High School and went on to study at Kent State University, earning an associate degree in art. She was employed as an artist for years by Miller Studio in New Philadelphia, where she retired. While at Miller, Carol Anne assisted Max Miller with the restoration of the fountain at Tuscora Park and with the mechanical Santa that adorned the Miller building at Christmastime.

She was a member of New Philadelphia’s First Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Joy Group and taught Sunday School. Carol Anne was fondly known by many of the children there as “Aunt Foo.”

Her love for her family and friends was nearly boundless. Carol Anne was blessed with creativity and enjoyed cooking for loved ones, as well as hosting holidays. Her adventurous spirit was a reflection of her love for life; she enjoyed cycling, riding horses – and Harley-Davidsons.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Jeffrey (Pat Mathey-Frantum) Frantum of New Philadelphia, Steven (Denise) Frantum of Pine Mountain, Georgia, Mark (Kim) Frantum of Massillon, Joel Frantum of Coos Bay, Oregon, Dan Frantum of Dover, Zoe (Ed) Oswalt of East Sparta, and Joshua Frantum of New Philadelphia; her sixteen grandchildren; her four great-grandchildren; her brother, Walter (Carol) Popichak; her half-sisters, Jeanette Davis and Susan Garcia; and her nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Carol Anne was preceded in death by her husband of very nearly 25 years, Richard D. Frantum, on November 12, 1988.

She will be cremated through the care of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Carol Anne’s family will celebrate her life on Sunday, August 3, beginning at 2 p.m., at Zoe and Ed’s home, 2095 Seeman St. S.W., East Sparta. All are welcome. Feel free to bring a side dish.

The family kindly requests that, instead of flowers, donations in Carol Anne’s memory be made to Camp CHOF, a ministry of the Canton Baptist Temple, www.cantonbaptist.org/camp-chof. Please send donations to Camp CHOF, ℅ Canton Baptist Temple, 515 Whipple Ave. N.W., Canton, Ohio 44708.
