Carl W. "Bub" Dreher, a beloved member of the Strasburg community, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. Born in Strasburg on January 23, 1939, Bub led a remarkable life and touched the hearts of countless individuals throughout his journey.
He retired in 2002 from Master Craft Industries in Berlin after many years of exceptional service. Prior to that, he also worked at Handy and Harmon. Bub's exceptional skills and hard work left an indelible mark on both companies. Moreover, he was the co-owner of Dreher and Dreher Construction alongside his uncle, Herb Dreher. However, it was Bub's iconic presence at Bub's Carry Out that truly endeared him to the people of Strasburg. Countless children from town who grew up during the 1970's and 80's have fond memories of buying candy, pop, and chips from Bub's Carry Out. The sight of those vibrant orange jerseys from minor league baseball with his logo on the front remains etched in their minds even to this day.

Outside of his professional achievements and community service, Bub cherished time spent with his family. Additionally, Bub was an Eagle Scout and became a troop leader for Strasburg Troop #72, where he made a positive impact on many young lives. His dedication to the Boy Scouts of America instilled important values of leadership and character in generations to come. Bub also served on the board of directors, further contributing to the advancement of Scouting within the community.
In his free time, Bub was an avid woodworker and craftsman. His talents allowed him to create beautiful pieces that will stand as a testament to his craftsmanship and artistic abilities. One of his favorite retreats was spending time with his family at their cabin at Lake Fizzle, where they created cherished memories together.
Bub shared 64 wonderful years with his loving wife, Ruth Newman Dreher, whom he married on November 2, 1958. Their enduring partnership was a true testament to love and companionship throughout life's journey. Together they embarked on adventures, faced challenges hand-in-hand, and created a warm and nurturing home for their family. Bub was a devoted father to his sons, Mike (Zita) Dreher of Strasburg and Dave (Keely) Dreher of Rittman. His love for his children knew no bounds, and he provided guidance, support, and unconditional love throughout their lives.
