Betty J. Stahlecker

September 9, 1923 — November 13, 2012

Betty J. Stahlecker, age 89, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

Born Sept. 9, 1923, in Dellroy, she was a daughter of the late Orin and Trevia Guy Easterday. Betty grew up during the hard times of the Great Depression, and graduated from Dellroy High School. During the Second World War, she contributed to the war effort as an employee of the Timken Roller Bearing Co. at Canton. Additionally, she volunteered at the Salvation Army Canteen in the Canton-Massillon area, helping to make soldiers' long train journeys more bearable. Following the war, she was employed by the U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. at East Sparta, where she met Lester Stahlecker. The two were married in 1947, and shared thirty-three years together before Lester's passing in 1980. Betty later owned and operated the Tammy Lynn Beauty Salon at Dover for some forty years. She was also a long-time school bus driver for the New Philadelphia School System a job Betty truly loved.

She was a member of the Bisel United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge, both at Dover, and the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandsons, whom she loved dearly.

Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Stahlecker of Parker, AZ; two grandsons, Sean Trough (a U.S. Army veteran) and James Topia (a student), both also of Parker; several nieces and nephews, including Kathy Fisher and Leslie (Travis) Love.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Lester, Betty was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Coffy, Gladys Gamble and Mary Whitehair; and a brother, John Easterday.
