Barbara J. Birtcher

Barbara J. Birtcher, 84, of Dover, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.

Born on May 21, 1942, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Alfred “Sharkey” and Jane Burrell Kaltenbaugh. Barbara was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Birtcher, whom she married on July 15, 1962, and who passed away on November 24, 2013; and by her son, Marc Birtcher.

Barbara was a 1960 graduate of Strasburg High School, and began her career in the classified advertising department of the Daily Reporter, which later became the Times-Reporter. She later served as a secretary at Pissocra Realty for many years. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed going to garage sales, and was an accomplished refinisher of antiques and was well known for her talent and dedication to the craft.

She is survived by her son, Kris (Tanja) Birtcher of Georgia; her sisters, Cherryll Murphy and Patti Fearon, both of Strasburg, and Jill (Bob) Herman of Dover; her brother, Barry Kaltenbaugh of Seattle; seven grandchildren, Lauren Birtcher, Kellie (Patrick) Reece, Jack (Amanda) Birtcher, Lexi Birtcher (fiance, Cole Boyles), Eian (Brandi) Birtcher, Alec (Beki) Birtcher, and Adam (Sydney) Birtcher; seven great-grandchildren; and her lifelong friends, Linda Concotto and Judy Michener.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover. Per Barbara's wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
