Alice Jacqueline (Oerter) Graef, 91, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at home surrounded by her family under hospice care.

Jacque was born on December 9, 1934, in Cory, Pennsylvania. She was the adopted daughter of the late Ralph and Francis (Probert) Oerter.

She graduated from Dover High School in 1952. She married the love of her life, James Frederick Graef. They would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on June 20, 2026. They had four children. Cheryl (the late Mitchell) Stephens, James (Wendy) Graef, Beverly (Todd) Handrich, and Annette Graef. She had seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was a lifelong member of the Dover First Moravian Church. She taught Sunday School, was a youth advisor, and volunteered in the church office, but her passion was working on the archives.

Jacque was very active in her children's school sports and activities. She was in Mother’s Club, PTA, where she served as president for three terms, Girl Scouts, and the baseball score keeper, known for her “little brown jug.” She also volunteered at Union Hospital and was known as the “TV Lady.” In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and crosstitching.

Due to Jacque’s wishes, there will be no calling hours, and private family graveside services will take place at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jacque’s name can be made to the Dover First Moravian Church, 319 N. Walnut St, Dover, Ohio 44622, or Ohio’s Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.

Jacque’s family would like to thank the Ohio Hospice nurses and staff for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
