William O. Brady

May 21, 1921 — July 4, 2009

William O. Brady, 88, of Strasburg, died Saturday, July 4, 2009 in Aultman Hospital.

He was born May 21, 1921 at Maximo, Ohio, the son of the late Harry and Catherine Kendle Brady.

For 35 years he was a dedicated employee of GTE, having worked from the Dover office as an equipment installer. He retired from the company in 1983.

A graduate of Strasburg High School, William was also a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia. He was active with the church's "Super 60's" club, and, was also able to help with the growing AV needs at the church with his wiring expertise. It should come as no surprise then, that one of his favorite hobbies was tinkering with electronics, especially if he could help a friend or neighbor. He also enjoyed fishing in his spare time, and was an avid card player whose favorite game was Euchre.

He honorably served our country during World War II, as he was stationed in the South Pacific as a member of the Army.

His wife, the former Marie Mann, died in August 18, 2003. The couple shared an amazing 62 years together as husband and wife.

Surviving members of the family include: two daughters, Cathie (Jim) Adams of Beach City, and Ginger (Joe) Steed of Port Washington; three sisters, Wanda Richesson and Florence Stein of Dover, and Dorothy (Jack) Gramse of Canal Fulton; and a brother, Eugene Brady of New Philadelphia. Ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren complete the family.

Along with his wife and parents, William was preceded in death by: a son, Gary Brady; and three sisters, Hazel Nelson, Bonnie Kurtz, and Helen Joyce.

His former pastor and longtime friend Joe Schulz will officiate a service that celebrates William's life on Wednesday, July 8, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Burial will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens where the Dover VFW will conduct full military honors.

Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m.

Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online guestbook for William by visiting the Obituaries link on the funeral home's website.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the First Baptist Church, 878 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia.
