May 6, 1923 — April 13, 2007

William N. “Bill” Jordan, 83, of Midvale, died Friday, April 13, 2007 in the Schoenbrunn Health Care Center.

Born May 6, 1923 at New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Clyde & Sylvia Swihart Jordan.

After 30 years of working as a melter for the company, Bill retired from the former Shenango Penn Mold at Dover.

Away from work, he enjoyed woodworking and could often be found in his woodshop listening to the radio and working on any number of projects. Along with his wife of 60 years, the former Arleina Garrett, who survives, Bill loved to fish and travel. In fact, many of the couple(TM)s trips over the years were made to favorite fishing spots all over the U.S.

His service to our country is not to be overlooked. He was a Rifleman in Company B of the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment(TM)s 3rd Armored Division. During World War II, he was involved in five campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. His service also merited him a Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars among other decoration.

Along with his wife, Bill is survived by: two brothers-in-law, Louie Tristano of Dover, and Charlie (Clara) Garrett of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Frances (Jim) Locker of New Philadelphia; niece Debbie; and nephew Steve.

In addition to his parents, two sisters, Lelia Winkler and Edith Tristano, preceded Bill in death.

A childhood friend, Elder Glenn Carlisle will officiate a service that celebrates Bill(TM)s life on Tuesday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Burial will be in New Philadelphia(TM)s East Avenue Cemetery where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors. Following the burial, a meal will be served in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard.

Friends may call in the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 p.m.

Those unable to attend or wishing to share a fond memory may sign the online register book for Bill by visiting the “obituaries” link on the funeral home(TM)s website.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 182039, Columbus, OH 43218-2039.
