William N. ''Bill'' Tipka

William N. “Bill” Tipka, 89, of Dover, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, in Aultman Hospital, Canton, following a long illness.

Born Oct. 1, 1913, in Cleveland, he was a son of the late John and Anna Matejka Tipka. Bill obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from The Ohio State University. He married Erna J. Meder on Nov. 23, 1939. Bill was a geologist and president of WNT Operating, Inc., an independent oil and gas producing company, that he operated along with Erna. Bill also worked with his two sons to drill about three hundred oil and gas wells in eastern Ohio.

He was a member of the Ohio Oil & Gas Association, The Ohio State University Alumni Association, and the Association of Petroleum Geologists. Bill and Erna very much enjoyed their winter home in Marco Island, FL, and fishing the island�(TM)s waterways.

Survivors include two sons Alan W. (Sarah) Tipka, and William J. (Barbara) Tipka, all of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Gwendolen A. (husband, Chris Harman) Jones, Laura A. Tipka, Michelle T. Tipka, Michael W. (Kate) Tipka,, and Brian J. Tipka; great-grandchildren, Chance Tyler Jones and Fate Serene Harman; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Harwell, and two brothers, James F. and John T. Tipka.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover (the service and visitation are being held in Dover, because of renovations currently underway at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in New Philadelphia). Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, 5:30-8 p.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
