William J. Withers

William Jennings "Billy Jo" Withers, 43, of Dover, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, in Union Hospital emergency room following a sudden illness.

Born, Feb. 17, 1965, in Dover, he was a son of the late John and Sarah Louise Vaughn Withers. Bill was a 1983 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was employed by Altivity Packaging in New Philadelphia.

He was a member of the Dover Eagles, the Amvets and Army-Navy Garrison, both of New Philadelphia. Bill enjoyed bowling, was a fan of NASCAR, loved football and liked going to the dog races in Wheeling. He spent 25 years driving in demolition derbies, eight years of which he drove for Martinelli's Demolition Team.

Bill is survived by his fiance, Jenny Wright, of Dover; two sisters, Patricia (Tom) Luketich of South Carolina, and Linda (Jim) Atalla of Colorado; a brother, Roger D. Withers of Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, John Logan Withers; maternal grandparents, Logan and Ida Vaughn; and paternal grandparents, Daniel and Eliza Withers.

A funeral service for Bill will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Following the committal ceremony, family and friends will gather at the Dover Eagles, to share a meal and memories of Bill. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
