William J. English

William J. "Bill" English, 80, of Dover died Friday, Jan. 10, 2013 in the Hennis Care Centre at Dover following a period of declining health.

Bill was born May 16, 1933 in New Philadelphia, the son of the late William and Clara (Bair) English. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers in law Joe Oddi and Byron Ball; a niece, Gina Harper and a nephew, David Ball. He was also preceded by his father in law and mother in law, Olga and Guy "Charles" Oddi.

Bill was a former Service Director for the City of Dover for several years.

He retired as Chief Probation Officer for the Tuscarawas County Juvenile Court. He also retired as Vice President of the former Massillon Steel Casting where he worked for 32 years.

Bill was a 1951 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover.

Bill will be sadly missed by his family including his wife Antoinette "Netta" Oddi English with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this June 7; a son, Daniel English and a daughter, Christine (Christopher) Helbling all of Dover; grandchildren, Sara (Adam) Studeny of North Canton and David Helbling of Canton; a sister in law, Florence Ball of Dover; a sister, Sandra Coutts of New Philadelphia; nieces, Cathy Harper of Dover and Carrie (Zach) Lendon of Minneapolis, MN; a nephew Joseph (Jean) Ball of Dover and an uncle Delbert (Dorothy) Bair of Dover.

Bill's life will be celebrated at his Rite of Christian Burial on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 beginning at 10:30am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield and Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 613 N. Tuscarawas Ave., Dover, Ohio 44622 or the "Shelter Me" Campaign, Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 6895 Dover-Zoar Rd., Dover, Ohio 44622 to be used for the new shelter.
