Thelma M. Swihart

Thelma M. Swihart, age 80, of Port Washington, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018, in New Dawn Retirement Community, Dover.

Born January 5, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Able Renicker. Thelma graduated from Dover High School in 1956, and was employed by the former Hello Shop and Marlowe’s Drug Store, both of Dover. Later, she was an agent for Sarah Coventry Jewelry and worked on and managed the family farm. Thelma belonged to the Tuscarawas County Homemakers, sang with the Valley Voices, and enjoyed cake decorating - her wedding cakes were particularly beautiful.

She is survived by her husband, Tom G. Swihart, whom she married on October 11, 1970; her son, Tim G. “Grady” (companion, Cindy Bowser) Swihart; her grandson, Thomas H. Swihart; her great-grandson, Chance Swihart; her sisters, Arlene (Earl) Hoagland and Bertha Ann Mizer; her nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Linda Meredith.

Besides her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her grandson, Tim G. Swihart Jr.; her great-granddaughter, Nikkiah “Ky Ky” Swihart; her brother, Dave Renicker; and her brother-in-law, Glenn Mizer.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 1, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Pastor Mark Maddux of the New Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will be in Dover’s Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
