Suzanne "Suzie" Zivic

September 12, 1933 — January 16, 2014

Suzanne (Suzie) Bair Zivic, 80, of Dover died January 16, 2014 at the Park Village Health Care Center in Dover following a lengthy period of declining health.

Born September 12, 1933 in Toronto, Ohio, she was the only child of the late Quay and Mildred (Johnston) Bair. She was a 1951 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and continued her education at Ohio Wesleyan University where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She remained in close contact with her sorority sisters throughout her life. She also did post-graduate studies at the Ohio State University. She was then employed by Union Hospital in Dover as a Lab Technician prior to starting a family with her husband George.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia. She was actively involved in the community and was a member and longtime volunteer for the Union Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Junior Clionion Club, Tourist Club, Dover Public Library, and past member of the Atwood Yacht Club and the Union Country Club.

Suzanne will be remembered by her friends and family for her great sense of humor and her infectious laugh. Her happiest times were sitting on her back porch, talking to her family or reading a good book, and was always happy to receive an unannounced guest for a short chat or a lengthy visit. The Zivic back porch became legendary as a gathering spot for many an impromptu 'party' where Suzie was all too happy to be at the center of the fun! Because of she and George's casual and welcoming style, no one ever felt like a stranger at the Zivic house. Over the years, Suzanne enjoyed traveling with George. They created many lasting memories through their travels together and with great friends. Over the last 13 years, Suzanne has adored spending time with her grandchildren and was always ready to join in on their goofiness and laughter.

Suzanne will be sadly missed by her family including her husband, George of nearly 58 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Cathy in 1978 as the result of a motorcycle accident. Cathy was a junior at Miami University at the time of her death. She is also survived by three children; Greg, a physician and Director of Emergency Medicine in East Lansing, MI; Jim, an artist and furniture designer and his wife and business partner, Tiffany and their daughter, Marlo of Berkeley, CA; and Linda, a Speech-Language Pathologist and her husband, Joe Miller and children Grace and Zac of Charlotte, NC.

Suzanne's family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover followed by graveside services in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover officiated by Pastor Jacquelyn Pinkowski of the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia. A reception to celebrate her life will follow the service at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.

The family would like to thank the staff at Park Village and Hospice for their compassion in caring for Suzanne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663
