Selma E. Petranek

Selma E. Petranek, 87, of New Dawn Retirement Community, and a long-time resident of E. Seventh St., Dover, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, in New Dawn.

Born Aug. 1, 1916, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Jenny Fritz Erickson. Selma was a 1934 graduate of Dover High School, and a 1937 graduate of Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, Cleveland. She was a registered nurse and retired from Union Hospital, Dover, as Surgical Nursing Supervisor following many years of service. Selma was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ, Dover.

Survivors include a son, Erick (Suzanne) Petranek of New Philadelphia; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Ericka Petranek, also of New Philadelphia; a sister, Rena Erickson of Dover; and a brother, George Erickson of Benton, Kentucky; and several nieces.

In addition to her parents, Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Petranek, in 1950; a sister, Nancy Doll; and a brother, Otis Erickson.

A graveside service, open to all who wish to attend, will be held Monday, Mar. 1, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., in Dover Burial Park. Rev. Steve Daniels will officiate.
