Roy L. "Rl" Gentry

Roy L. "RL" Gentry, 88, of Mineral City died Monday, February 29, 2016 in the home of his daughter, Deanna, surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 2, 1927 in Canton he was a son of the late Roy and Ora Braswell Gentry. RL was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Gentry in 1971; son, Glenn Gentry; son in law, Eugene Such; great grandson, Alvin Rennicker; one brother and four sisters.

He retired from Stone Container after 13 years as a truck driver. RL proudly served his country with the United States Navy during WW II. He was an active member of the Sandy Valley Church of God, having been a song leader, Sunday school Superintendent and served on church council. RL was also a member of the Mineral City American Legion. His hobbies included working on cars, assembling model trains, planes and cars and being an all-around handy man, fixing anything for anyone.

A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, RL will be sadly missed by his second wife, Dolly Isenhart Gentry, whom he married on May 31, 1972; children, Deanna (Marion) Kelly of Strasburg, Elizabeth Gentry of Coshocton, Elaine Gentry and her fianc, Richard Riley of Canton, Anita Such of Dover, Alan (Connie) Gentry and Holly "Buck" Delauder of Canton; sister, Muncy Marshall of Navarre; brother, Bruce Gentry of East Canton; daughter in law, Pamala Gentry of Bolivar; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. RL will also be sadly missed by his two best buddies, Sapphire & Jasper, his Chihuahuas.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 6 at 6:00 pm in the Sandy Valley Church of God at 11281 SR 800, Magnolia with Rev. Clifford Hughes officiating. Friends can call at the church one hour prior to services on Sunday.
