Roy Curtis Humrighouse

Roy C. Humrighouse, 89, of Dover died Wednesday morning, Feb. 13, 2013 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following an extended illness.

Roy was a retired supervisor for the Marlite Corporation where he worked for 38 years.

Born Sept. 24, 1923, in Feed Springs, Ohio, he was the son of the late Frederick and Bessie (Patterson) Humrighouse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris (Burns) Humrighouse and his second wife, Evelyn Eichel. He was also preceded by his twin brother, Harry F. Humrighouse.

Roy was an active member of the St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover where he held numerous offices including President of Council, Chairman of the Investment Committee, usher, and served on several search committees. He was also the former Sunday School Superintendent and attended the Mens Fellowship and Bible Study. After graduating from Uhrichsville High School, he proudly served his country as a Staff Sgt. and nose gunner on B 24 Bombers in the U.S. Air Corp (484th Bomb Group) and received numerous medals and flew 24 missions. An article appeared in the Times Reporter last year that featured him and his twin brother and their military involvement. He spent time in the European Theater having served in Italy, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Germany. He also was active in his community where he was a Past Master and former Secretary Treasurer of the Tuscarawas Masonic Lodge at Dover, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, former member of the Union Hospital Association, AARP, and delivered Mobile Meals for many years. In his earlier years, he was also a Little League Baseball Coach. He enjoyed playing scrabble, flower gardening, euchre and played word puzzles and Jumbo in the daily newspaper.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife Helen (Bartholow) Schupbach Humrighouse with whom he would have celebrated 17 years this September.; a sister, Verna Hren of Uhrichsville; a sister in law, Florence Humrighouse of East Sparta along with his stepchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and his many friends.

A funeral service celebrating Roy's life will be held Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 beginning at 2pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. A reception will follow in the St. John's UCC Fellowship Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1-2pm with masonic services at 12:45pm.
