Ronald W. Caswell

Ronald W. Caswell, 77, of Dover passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Aultman Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born on September 2, 1933 in Akron he was the son of the late Whitefield and Mary Dahl Caswell. Ronald graduated from Ellet High School in Akron in the class of 1951. He attended Kent State University.

On January 18, 1952, he married the love of his life, Arlene Ryan. The couple was looking forward to their 60th wedding anniversary.

In September of 1951, he joined the United States Army National Guard. In January of 1952, the 37th Division was activated and he left for Korea, where he was wounded on Outpost Harry. He was honorably discharged in August of 1953. He was a very proud American and a courageous soldier.

In 1965, he became the general Manager for Weigand GMC Trucks in Dover. He later retired as a dispatcher and salesman at Reese Trucking in Dover following 17 years of service.

Ron served as the past president of the Dover Exchange Club. He was a member of the Dover Masonic Lodge No. 489 F. & A.M. and was a Shriner. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia VFW and a former active member of the Dover Tornado Club.

Ron loved his family and cherished the time they spent together. He also enjoyed watching TV and was rarely seen without a remote control in his hand.

In addition to his wife, Arlene, he will be sadly missed by his daughters; Ronda Lee (Richard) Cannon of Akron, Rene Lynn Nichols of Pompano Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Carrie Ryan Nichols, Steven Allen Nichols, and Matthew Richard Cannon all of Akron; a brother, Donald Lee (Sandra) Caswell of Madison, WI; a sister, Marilyn Louise Johnson of Akron, along with many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his son; Mark Allen Caswell; brother, Neal Allen Caswell; sister and brother in -law, Sharon Ann and Harold Fraelich; mother in-law, Loretta Ryan Collins; and father in-law, Martin Franklin Ryan.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Pastor Bruce McLaughlin officiating. Interment will take place at Dover Burial Park, where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors. A meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm.
