Roger F. Gilkerson, 69, of Strasburg died Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Cleveland Clinic surrounded by his family.
Born November 25, 1945 in Portsmouth, Ohio he was a son of the late Oscar and Bertie Claypool Gilkerson.
Roger was a 1963 graduate of Fairless High School where upon his graduation, he proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he was employed at Ohio Grating in Canton for more than 40 years. Not one to sit still after his retirement, he enjoyed mowing grass at Strasburg Franklin Park. Roger loved watching his granddaughters play softball for the Strasburg Tigers and, in his younger years, playing golf with the Hackmasters. He was a member of the Brewster and Dover Moose Clubs.
A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Roger will be sadly missed by his wife of 46 years, Mary Krantz Gilkerson whom he married on May 3, 1969; son, Joe (Missy) Gilkerson of Strasburg; brother, Larry (Ann) Gilkerson of Brewster; grandchildren, Emma, Ella and Ashtyn along with all of his brothers and sisters in law and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 24 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Fr. Jonathan Kathenge and Deacon Lyn Houze officiating. Interment will be in the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends can call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 pm.
