Richard Thomas Gyde

Richard Thomas "Dick" Gyde, 79, of Sugarcreek, and a longtime California resident, died peacefully Thursday, December 6, 2012, in Union Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 11, 1933 at Riverside, CA, he was the son of the late Urban Frank & Martha Elizabeth Thomas Gyde.

A machinist by trade, Dick was by hobby, an avid gunsmith. He enjoyed cleaning and restoring antique rifles and owned quite an extensive collection of guns that he was proud of. He also enjoyed collecting coins.

Dick was a member of Dover's Foursquare Gospel Church. He enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Muriel Ems. The two were married on November 7, 1954.

Other surviving family members include: two sons, Mark Gyde (Pam Cory) of Brea, CA and Matthew & Linda Gyde of Irvine, CA; four daughters, Marci Rocha of Buena Park, CA, Shelli Kirk (Cole Gruen) of Fresno, CA, Maureen & Tim Schilling of Chanhassen, MN and Missi & Andrew Wing of New Philadelphia; ten grandchildren, Amber and Dustin Loyd, Joshua Branham, Laurell Gyde, Clayton, Heidi and Amy Schilling, and Kelcie, Chloe and Aaron Wing; and three great grandchildren, Kobe Branham, Allyssa Loyd and Grace Schilling.

Along with his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Natalie Smith.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes & Crematory, Dover. Pastor David Wing will officiate a memorial service that celebrates Dick's life Saturday (today), December 8, at 11:00 a.m. in the Dover Foursquare Church, 302 E. Slingluff Ave., Dover. Friends may call one-hour prior to services. A meal will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Dover Foursquare Church Benevolence Fund.
